“For I have that which is according to the image in being a rational being, but I become according to the likeness in becoming Christian.”

— St. Basil the Great

About Sangeetha

Reflecting on my personal journey into becoming a therapist, I can wholeheartedly say that I am fulfilling my soul’s calling by helping others in their own mental, emotional, relational, and spiritual healing through the work of psychotherapy. I love what I do because it’s all about meeting my clients in the lonely depths of inner struggle and, together, finding a path out of the darkness and into the light. There’s a beautiful road to healing ahead, and it’s even more beautiful when shared with a trusted co-traveler who’s been there, too.

My first and foremost identity is as an Orthodox Christian. My faith is woven into who I am, how I connect with others, and how I serve in the world through my profession. Orthodox Christian theology is at the heart of my life and work in therapy, directing the core belief that every human bears the Image of God and, therefore, has the potential to find meaning, hope, and peace within their soul by perpetually integrating their experience of life in the world with their experience of God.

I’m also an Indian American woman, a daughter of immigrants, who was born and raised in the context of American culture while also semi-immersed in Indian culture. There’s far more to me than my identity labels and that’s true for my clients, too. I view identity as complex, multifaceted, and constantly adapting based on the dynamic interplay of internal values with external influences. I believe that it’s only when we are willing to look into the depth of who we are that we can discover who we are uniquely called and created to be.

Curious about my name?  My name is Indian, just like me!  It comes from the Sanskrit word meaning “music” and is pronounced  “Sung–GHEE–tha” (Youtube Video: How to pronounce “Sangeetha”)
